Millions of Americans use supplements to improve health —
A nationwide online survey uncovered that an estimated 187 million American adults are supplementing their diets to improve their health. The Barometer Study gathered data regarding the use and opinion of dietary supplements. Significant findings include that 85% of the population believes that supplementation can be used to help maintain health, and 70% agreed that the use of supplements can reduce health care costs. Multivitamins were found to be the most commonly used supplements among respondents.
The survey also highlighted the desire to further educate about dietary supplements. 67% of the participants feel that conflicting stories in the mainstream media create an aura of confusion surrounding supplements. In addition, 70% would like more advice from their doctors and other health care professionals regarding supplementation.
Application: As evidence by these stats, the American population is becoming more aware of the potential benefits offered by dietary supplements. Studies are stacking up to support solid proof that supplements can play an important role in health maintenance. With health care costs rising, everyone from government officials to your neighbor is in search of a way to leading healthier lives in a more economical manor. Maybe it’s time that you introduce them to dietary supplementation.

A MESSAGE FROM MIKE ADAMS, "The Health Ranger"
"Achieving outstanding health is not complicated. The human body already knows how to be healthy. All you have to do is give your body outstanding nutrition so that it has the building materials it needs to heal disease and rebuild itself from the inside out. You must also avoid all of the foods and food ingredients that cause disease.
Today, more than 95% of all chronic disease is caused by food choice, toxic food ingredients, nutritional deficiencies and lack of physical exercise. Western medicine has failed our people. Today, even while prescription drugs are more frequently consumed than ever before in the history of civilization, our nation has skyrocketing rates of obesity and chronic disease. Western medicine simply does not work. It is an outmoded system of medicine dominated by the financial interests of pharmaceutical companies, power-hungry officials at the FDA, and old-school doctors whose myopic view of health prevents them from exploring the true causes of healing. Modern medical schools don't even teach healing or nutrition. No practitioner of western medicine has ever taught me a single thing about being healthy.
Today, our nation stands at the verge of a revolution in medicine and healing. We can choose the route of organized medicine -- the oppressive, controlled, disease-promoting system that puts pharmaceutical profits first -- or we can embrace the future of healing: nutrition, disease prevention, vibrational medicine, energetic medicine, homeopathy, herbal medicine and other modalities that respect the wisdom of the human body and spirit. We can be a people free of disease, depression and suffering, but only if we are willing to stand up and demand a comprehensive reform of today's destructive system of health oppression that masquerades as scientific medicine." --Mike Adams

Weight Loss May Be Tax Deductible
Dateline 04/04/2002
Recognizing obesity as a disease, the IRS has issued a ruling under which expenses for certain weight-loss programs may qualify as medical deductions on individuals’ federal income tax returns. Diet foods, however, are not deductible. Grab a snack and don your thinking cap, because here comes the rules.
Must be medically prescribed
Under the IRS ruling, taxpayers who have been diagnosed as obese or otherwise suffering from a disease for weight-loss is a medically prescribed treatment may deduct associated medical expenses not paid by insurance only to the extent the total of such expenses exceeds 7.5 percent of their adjusted gross income. IRS gives examples of two taxpayers participating in weight-loss programs. They paid fees to join the programs and to attend periodic meetings and purchased diet plans and booklets. One was diagnosed by a doctor as obese, the other as suffering from hypertension. Both participated in the programs as a treatment for their medically diagnosed diseases. The costs related to their weight-loss programs would be deductible for these taxpayers, to the extent not reimbursed by insurance or other sources. Taxpayers who participate in weight loss programs to improve their appearance or general health may not deduct expenses associated \with those programs.
Diet foods are not deductible
The cost of diet foods– including foods associated with a medically prescribed diet plan– is not deductible. The IRS considers diet foods to be substitutes for the food taxpayers would normally eat and, thus, not deductible medical expenses, even for taxpayers whose disease qualifies them to deduct other non-food costs of the weight loss program.
Applies to prior years, as well
The new rule applies not only to 2001 tax returns being filed this year, but also to any years for which taxpayers may file amended returns. Generally, a person may amend a return for three years after the due date. Thus, a taxpayer who did not have an extension to file would have until April 15, 2002, toamend a 1998 return.
It is more cost effective to pursue wellness than to restore health.
